Eat a varied, balanced diet: concentrate on fresh vegetables and animal protein (fish or meat, preferably lean). Go back to slow-release sugars, which people often mistakenly exclude from their diet in favour of more fatty foods. Don’t consume too much salt so as to avoid water retention and its main consequence: bloating. Keep an eye on your calorie intake: try to reduce calorie intake, particularly in the form of fats (especially saturated fats: cakes, cheese, processed meats, etc.) and alcohol. Make sure that you consume anti-oxidants (vitamins A, C, E, betacarotene, zinc, etc.); these help combat cell and skin ageing and help prevent tissue sagging that can occur during the menopause and when you lose weight. Drink plenty of water to increase diuresis and improve the elimination of waste from the body. This is a perfect complement to weight loss.
